Farah has been a truly outstanding volunteer, bringing warmth, compassion, and practical support to a family who needed it most. When Mum first connected with Home-Start, she was facing a whirlwind of challenges—feeling isolated, struggling with her mental health, managing a tight budget, navigating child development concerns, and adjusting to life with a new baby. On top of all this, Mum had only basic English skills, which made accessing services and support even more difficult.
From the moment Farah was matched with the family, she became a steady, reassuring presence. She took the time to build a genuine relationship with Mum, offering not just help, but hope. Through regular visits and gentle encouragement, Farrah helped Mum grow in confidence and rediscover her self-worth.
One of the most impactful changes was helping Mum switch from relying on expensive taxis to using local bus services. This simple shift opened up a whole new world—Mum could now travel independently to the library, attend GP appointments, do her shopping, and explore her local community. It also made a huge difference to her budgeting, allowing her to stretch her finances further and feel more in control.
Farah’s support didn’t stop there. She helped Mum join the local library, assisted with food shopping, and even helped source essential items for the home. She was there to support Mum with phone calls to services, filling out forms, and navigating systems that felt overwhelming. Farah’s kindness and patience made these tasks manageable and empowering.
Thanks to Farah’s dedication, Mum is now more confident, connected, and capable. She’s accessing local services, managing her household more independently, and engaging more fully with her community. Farah has not only supported Mum practically—she’s helped her believe in herself again.
