Feeling lonely and isolated with an active three-year-old daughter, single mum, Emma, 43, turned to volunteer support from Home-Start Bradford to help get her out and about again.

Emma’s Story

I was introduced to Home-Start Bradford through health visitor. At the time, I knew I needed support, but I didn’t really know what Home-Start was or how they could help me. When Trudi first came to speak with me and explain the service, I felt open to receiving any kind of help or guidance that could make life easier for both me and my daughter.

Soon after, I was matched with my volunteer, Lisa, and having her support made such a positive difference in our lives.

Lisa helped me access places and activities that benefited both me and Yanaya. Together, we went to the park, attended playgroups, and visited the community centre. She also came to visit us at home. These simple activities meant so much more than just getting out of the house as they helped me rebuild my confidence, feel less isolated, and start enjoying time outside with my daughter again.

As a parent, having Lisa in our lives gave me reassurance and confidence during a time when I really needed it. It reminded me that I didn’t have to do everything alone.

The support also had a wonderful impact on Yanaya. She really enjoyed Lisa’s visits and always felt comfortable and happy around her. Through the outings and activities, Yanaya had more opportunities to socialise, explore new environments, and enjoy new experiences.

My experience with Home-Start Bradford has been amazing from beginning to end. I felt listened to, understood, and genuinely supported throughout. I’m incredibly grateful to both Trudi and Lisa for everything they have done for me and my daughter.

Home-Start Bradford District is there to support families and not to judge them. The service has made such a lasting positive difference to my confidence and everyday life, which in turn benefits Yanaya too. Just knowing someone is there for you makes all the difference.
