Dad Matters Coordinator: Home-Start Bradford District (HSBD), The Thornbury Centre, Leeds Old Road, Bradford, BD3 8JX.
Hours of work: 24 hours/week each. Potential flexibility of hours.
Salary: £20588 – £22353 (£30024 – 32597 FTE, equiv. to SCP15-20) dependent on experience.

Responsible for: Dad Matters volunteers (to be recruited)
Workplace: The Thornbury Centre, with regular travel across Bradford
Start date: ASAP
Term: This is currently a fixed-term post to the end of March 2027. The intention is for it to continue as a permanent role, contingent on securing funding.
Purposes of the job
The Dad Matters Coordinators will deliver a range of universal and targeted interventions for male parents during the first 1001 days. They will support dads and other male carers with attachment and bonding, mental health and access to services. They will also work with professionals and perinatal services to ensure dads and male carers are engaged, supported and heard within clinical pathways.
The purposes of the job are:
- To contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of Home-Start in accordance with its governing documents, policies and practices.
- To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families and volunteers.
- To implement good safeguarding practice in all areas of work.
- To build on the Home-Start foundation of peer support by engaging and supporting dads in one-to-one and group situations.
- To ensure that parent-infant relationships are a thread through every relationship and conversation with dads.
- To raise awareness of the risks of poor mental health for fathers and their families during the perinatal period.
- To raise awareness of the impact on fathers of caring for a partner affected by perinatal mental health issues.
- To develop the Dad Matters volunteer role across the Bradford District.
- To develop close links with other health and voluntary agencies in the Bradford District.
- To facilitate regular consultation with fathers through outreach and focus groups.
- To participate in the further development of HSBD’s support for families across Bradford.
Main responsibilities
Support to Dads
- Provide individual and group support to dads during the perinatal period.
- Meet dads at ante-natal clinics.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate ante-natal Dad Chats in person and online.
- Support the development of support offered to dads with children in the NICU and those with partners in receipt of care from Perinatal Mental Health teams, Adult Mental Health, IAPT and Parent Infant Mental Health teams.
- Signpost and support access to other services as appropriate.
- Undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.
- Ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of work.
- Facilitate regular focus groups with fathers in order to ensure that all resources are targeted appropriately.
- Directly support Dads and their families, providing advice or guidance on physical, emotional, or educational well-being.
Promotion and awareness raising
- Maintain up-to-date information for dads and make this available through the Dad Matters website and a range of social media.
- Engage dads through social media, self-referral, and email.
- Ensure the integrity of the Dad Matters Brand when engaging dads and professionals.
Recruiting and managing volunteers
- Promote, develop and deliver volunteer recruitment campaigns.
- Recruit, select and prepare suitable volunteers.
- Arrange and co-ordinate volunteer activity in person and online.
- Provide support and supervision for volunteers engaged in working with Dads.
- Provide further training for Home-Start home-visiting volunteers as appropriate.
Monitoring and evaluation
- Support the evaluation of Dad Matters’ impact.
- Ensure accurate and relevant record-keeping and data collection.
Working in Partnership
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key health partners, including those from Parent Infant Mental Health teams, Midwifery, IAPT, Perinatal Teams, Adult Mental Health, Health Visiting and other VCSE groups.
- Prepare and contribute to reports for HSBD trustees and for current and potential funders.
- Network appropriately within the community.
- Deliver/co-deliver training to multi-agency colleagues as appropriate.
- Contribute to local policy and community development as appropriate.
Supporting the work of Home-Start
- Undertake work as delegated by the Senior Management Team to support the strategic management, development and future funding of Home-Start.
- Support the implementation and review of Home-Start policies and procedures.
- Complying with HSBD’s administration, monitoring and financial systems and processes.
- Promote the work of HSBD and of this project as required.
- Contribute to and support the development of the Home-Start network locally, regionally and nationally.
The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above.
